Homework for April 18-April 24, 2011

Language Arts ~ 
  • Read 20-30 minutes every night, including Holidays and Weekends!!


  • Tuesday is Due Day!!  Students received a packet of work on Tuesday and it is due the following Tuesday.  Students are currently working on Packet #2 which focuses on Inferences and reviews Main Idea and Author's Purpose (which was the focus of Packet #2), has a reading log to fill in each night, and a connections page (this week's connection is Text to World).  Packet #3 is due on Tuesday, April 26th.
  • TEST on Friday on ALL the roots, refer to your green list and your Tiny Book of Roots to study.  Test will be on Friday, April 29th.

Geography Terms

  • gulf - a part of the ocean that is partially enclosed by land
  • ocean - a large body of water
  • coral reef - an ocean ridge made up of skeletal remains of tiny sea animals
  • peninsula - an area of land surrounded by water on three sides that sticks out into a lake or ocean
  • bay - a small body of water that is partially enclosed by land
  • isthmus - a narrow piece of land connecting two larger land areas
  • delta - an area where a river deposits soil into the ocean
  • island - an area of land surrounded entirely by water
  • strait - a narrow body of water connecting two larger bodies of water
  • river - a large stream of water that flows from higher land to lower land
  • wetlands - an area of land covered by shallow water
  • forest - an area of densely wooded land
  • lake - an inland body of water entriely surrounded by land
  • coast - an area of land near the ocean
  • volcano - a cone-shaped mountain that is formed by lava erupting from a crack in teh Earth's surface

  • Prime Meridian - the primary, or first line of longitude

The Perfect Paragraph (TPP)

The Perfect Paragraph rules:
  1. TPP is indented.
  2. TPP has correct capitalization
  3. TPP has complete sentences.
  4. TPP does not have sentences that begin with and, but, or, so, because, or well.
  5. TPP is legible.
  6. TPP has no contractions.
  7. TPP used homophones correctly.
  8. TPP spells numbers instead of using digits.
  9. TPP has sentences with subject-verb agreement.
  10. TPP limits the use of pronouns.

You are to utilize these rules EVERY time you write in EVERY subject!!
